In less than two weeks, over 1,500 blind and visually impaired people in Romania have preordered the .lumen glasses, free of charge, through a national government program supporting people with disabilities.

Romania thus becomes the first country in the world where glasses that guide the blind are made accessible on a large scale.

A major step for over 85,000 people with visual impairments in Romania

According to official data, more than 85,000 blind and visually impaired individuals live in Romania. For many of them, daily independence is limited by the lack of adapted infrastructure and accessible technologies.

For the first time, they now have access to a CE-certified mobility solution designed specifically to restore freedom of movement.

Independence and dignity through technology, with the .lumen glasses

The .lumen glasses have been tested in more than 40 countries with over 400 blind users. They use artificial intelligence and haptic feedback to guide users safely around obstacles, replicating the behaviour of a guide dog, but in a scalable, accessible, and non-invasive form.

From the beginning, .lumen was never built for profit; it was built for purpose. Our goal has always been to bring technology where it has the greatest impact: into people’s lives.

A pair of .lumen glasses can make the difference between relying on others every day and being able to:

  • go to work independently

  • take your child to school

  • attend university

  • or simply go out safely.

Technology brings real freedom where accessibility is still missing.
